Reflective Narrative
4.1 The class that I feel best helped me fulfill this was the JAPN403: pre-capstone course. With this course we examined the capstone of previous Japanese majors in order to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the appropriate research methodologies, which I would later apply towards my capstone. Also we meet with the resource librarian who taught us how to appropriately research and compile a review of literature.
4.2 During both the WLC 300 course as well as the JAPN 403 pre-capstone course the class met with the same resource librarian who also taught us how to best utilize that databases to find sources that aligned with the research that we would do for our capstone. Furthermore, I learned about how to better use the necessary technology required for my capstone project.
4.3 For my capstone on Japanese-American identity, my partner and I created a survey in both English and Japanese using google forms, an internet based survey. We surveyed 62 American and Japanese university students in order to discover their views of Japanese-American identity. While google forms automatically produces data charts, the graphs were not best suited for the purpose of the capstone and therefore we also had to find better ways to represent the data we collected.
